Not all art hangs on walls.....If you’re a gardner, you know that.. And like artist Caity Whiteaker, you know what magic the right soil and food can do for your plants! Three Mutts Worm Farm began with a family garden, a desire to waste less, and the discovery that high-quality vermicompost could transform sandy Florida soil. After buying enough castings for their vegetable garden to threaten the household budget, founders Caity Whiteaker and Cory Cook decided to make their own. Caity promptly disappeared down a research rabbit hole, developed what she describes as a parasocial relationship with vermicomposting expert Rhonda Sherman, and became deeply obsessed with feedstocks, microbial communities, and the production of biologically rich castings. Today, Three Mutts Worm Farm produces small-batch, Florida-grown vermicompost while working to show local gardeners that regenerative, waste-conscious growing practices are possible—even in nutrient-poor sand. The farm’s long-term vision is a world in which every household has a worm bin and puts them out of business. Until then, they hope you’ll buy their worm shit. Three Mutts Worm Farm is owned and operated by Caity and Cory, who met at an Atlanta party in 2009 where Cory was dressed as Bigfoot despite it not being Halloween. Each entered the relationship with a roadside rescue mutt, and a third soon followed after a neighbor acquired a pitt bull puppy they didn’t actually want. Those original dogs have since passed, but the household has remained firmly governed by three mutts ever since. Their devotion to dogs, gardening, reducing waste, and making responsible use of available resources informs everything they do.
